  1. Tummy Time

Age: 0 months onwards

Tummy time is when your baby spends on his stomach while he’s awake. It helps your baby build neck, head, and upper body strength to crawl and pull to stand when the baby is older.

If your baby does not like tummy time and makes him vomit or miss seeing you when he’s on his tummy, try tummy time on your chest or across your lap. This will put less pressure on your baby’s stomach and can help with problems such as reflux.

For babies who are crying because they are not seeing your presence while lying down, you could also get down on the floor with your baby. Let your baby know that you are nearby by singing, talking, stroking his back, or tickling his hands. Try doing tummy time on a variety of surfaces, such as on carpet indoors or on a blanket outside.

Tummy time can be exhausting, like every other core workout, so 1-2 minutes of tummy time is enough during the first few weeks. Build up to 5-10 minutes a few times a day as your baby gets used to it.

  1. Sit-Up

Age: 4 months old or when a baby can support their head

Another core workout, sit up will enhance your baby’s ability to crawl and sit up independently. It will also help to enhance your baby’s upper body strength. To do this, place a blanket on the bed. Gently put the baby facing up. Hold the side of the blanket slightly above the head. Slowly lift the blanket to the extent that your baby is in a sitting position, while the blanket acts as a backrest. Lower the blanket again until your baby is completely lying down. Do these steps with repetition of five to ten times.

Age: 0 months onwards

Picking up objects is a great way to build your baby’s grasping control and hand-eye coordination, as well as muscular strength. Here’s how to do this:

Make your baby is sitting in a high chair or a bouncy seat. Place some toys in front of your baby and encourage them to lift one, examine it, put it down, and then lift it again. If your baby is not picking up the object in front of them, you may need to show them how to do it. But generally, most babies will learn very quickly and enjoy this exercise a lot!

Age: 6 months onwards or when a baby can stand by themselves

“Baby cruising” is done when a baby who knows how to stand begins to walk while holding objects that assist with balance, such as the side of a coffee table, the bed frame, and more.
